The swells shaped up well today and the sun set picturesque tonight. Its March but the weather here has felt like summer, and not June gloom. Watching the sun dip below the horizon is one of the most peaceful moments of my day. Laura Graves, a young woman I taught in Calgary on my mission, shared a quote with me, “I believe in God like I believe in the sun rise. Not because I can see it, but because I see all that it touches.”
Similarly in a sunset, we see the sideways light illuminating all that lies in its path and gradually fades away, and so quickly we forget the light that illuminates us all as its replaced with darkness. But I am reminded from time to time by my roomie and hombre what MLK once said, “Only when it’s dark enough can you see the stars.” So regardless of the time of day or time in our life, there is light and there is beauty. Sometimes we have to look harder than other times, but its always worth looking, and more often than not, a picture perfect lesson develops.
